January Beauty Favourites [Lazy Summer Makeup]

It is reaching the end of summer here in Australia. The days have been long and very hot, making me very lazy to do my face. I have never done a monthly favourites, so I thought I would do my january summer favourites. I have realised, this month's favourites contain basically all the products I use for a lazy summer day makeup look. (besides eyebrow pencil) I hope you enjoy!

Under the hot dangerous sun, protecting your skin with sunscreen is essential. However, the current sunscreen i am using is not my favourite formula. However, in general suncare and sunscreen is very important!

I like my skin to breathe in summer, since I produce more oils and sweat more. Therefore, instead of wearing a face full of makeup, I spot conceal with The Saem Cover Perfection Tip Concealer and then powder with the Innisfree No-sebum mineral powder. The combination is great!

The concealer doesn't feel heavy, has great coverage and doesn't get cakey. Innisfree no-sebum mineral powder removes any oil shine, while allowing my skin to breathe which I love! A more detailed review for the Powder is HERE.

For eyes, The combination of Etude house Dr. Mascara Fixer and Innisfree skinny waterproof microscara is great for summer (or any season in general). Summer makes me lazy and so I can't be bothered to put on eye shadow and eyeliner. However, curling my lashes and adding mascara gives more polished and awake look without much effort. The two products together gives a curled, long and natural look to lashes. If you want a review of any of the products mentioned, be sure to let me know in the comments!

I am loving the natural my-lips-but-better lip colours lately (especially for lazy days) I transition between Peripera Rouge Pang in PK07 (on days I want more matte pinky lips) and Innisfree Creammellow Lipstick in #3 Creamy Coral (on days I want more balmy and moisturised looking lips). Both are similar in colour, being a soft muted pinks, (creamy coral leaning more coral ofcourse)

These two colours make my lips look alive and thus makes my whole face look healthy and done up.

Nature Republic Saccharomyces Ferment The First Essence + Ampoule Review

Rice has many skin benefits, but the most commonly known one is brightening. Nature Republic Saccharomyces Ferment The First line all contain concentrated amounts of jeju fermented rice extracts, which helps brightens and moisturises the skin.

My personal theory (which may be totally wrong) on the difference between brightening and whitening/lightening is this.
Brightening gernerally refers to adding natural radiance and healthy glow to the skin. (which is what this line claims to do)
Whitening/lightening refers to the literal lightening of the skin tone and or uneven hyperpigmentation and scars.

I bought the essence and ampoule, since i thought the two would make the most noticeable difference to my skin. Having that above theory in mind, The line's claims of promoting bright, clear and transparent skin does not necessarily mean lightening/whitening blemishes and acne scars. However, deep down I still hoped it would since I have quite a number of acne scars and hyper pigmentation. Obviously it did not lighten/whiten blemishes. I cannot feel disappointed though, since the claims were to brighten not lighten. I just have too dark and strong of scars to remove.

Now I couldn't find an english translated version of the poster advertisements, which note the claims of this essence, but this is an image of the korean version.

The line includes the following steps and products as shown in the above image

Essence>Skin>Emulsion>Ampoule>Cream>Eye Cream

Nature Republic Saccharomyces Ferment The First Essence Review

The hero of the entire line is the Essence. This essence and its accompanying cream (which I did not get) received recognition after being recommended by the popular Korean beauty show 'Get it beauty' as a product that gives the skin a natural glow and radiance. Here is the Get it beauty x Nature Republic ad.

Product
Nature Republic Saccharomyces Ferment The First Essence
Volume
150ml
Price
$24.59USD at Koreadepart
Description
Formulated with 90% Saccharomyces ferment, this undiluted essential essence makes the skin clear and transparent
How to use
For the first steps of skin care, dispense liberally on a cotton pad and apply it to the entire face

Packaging
Firstly, lets awe at the elegant and beautiful glass packaging of this essence! unlike the typical SKI look alike packaging all brands use for these fermented essences (which is a silver cap and frosted jar), Nature Republic has kept the same tall cylindrical glass bottle but added a personal touch of oriental and organic theme to it. The cap is a very sturdy plastic which has beautiful hangul writing that adds a traditional vibe to it.

Application
Right after application, the cotton pad is seen with excess dirt (which is good!) and my skin looks really bright and lighter in complexion with a reduction in redness. It looks as if you have just applied a  face mask. However, that being said this lighter complexion and reduction in redness is only temporary. The permanent brightening effects are gradual and not instant.

Effectiveness
My skin is oily, combination skin (having dry patches from spot treatments). Before using this essence, my skin was very dull, having large pores which produced alot of excessive oils. 2 months in using this essence, I have noticed my skin is less oily, my pores are reduced in size and overall this essence helped my skin gain a radiant healthy glow. Although my acne scars and some uneven tones have not lightened, my skin is no longer dull looking but looks as if I am healthy and glowing from within.

Final Verdict

Pros
Suitable for all skin types
Moisturising
Refreshing (can be used as a mist)
Gradually Brightens complexion- giving a radiant healthy glow to skin
Reduces redness
Removes excess impurities and oils well
Skin has become less oily
Pores have reduced in size
Does not cause breakouts

Cons
Does not whiten skin tone
Does not lighten acne scars or discolouration
Did not stop breakouts (still had occasional pimples)
More on the higher price range of essences

Overall, I recommend this product to all skin types- whether normal, dry or oily. I do not recommend this essence to those looking to lightening their acne scars, blemishes and hyper pigmentation, but to those who have dull skin who want a more radiant healthy glow.

Would I Repurchase?
I have given up on find a product that will fade my acne scars. I have come to believe cleansing and exfoliating is the best way to go to reduce scars (since they are just dead skin cells). Therefore, instead I will be trying out exfoliants, peeling masks and cleansing products and methods to fight the scars!

Not needing a scar lightening essence,  I will definitely repurchase this essence! It helps my oiliness, dull complexion and pores! I will be purchasing this essence again shortly as I am nearly out and the emulsion from the same line.

Nature Republic Saccharomyces Ferment The First Ampoule Essence Review

The review on the ampoule will be shorter as I believe the hero of this line is the essence and not the ampoule. I did not feel lived up to my standards.

Product
Nature Republic Saccharomyces Ferment The First Ampoule Essence
Volume
40ml
Price
$18.45USD at Koreadepart
Description
Formulated with 80% Saccharomyces ferment, this essence with active ingredients of vitamin capsule ampoule makes the skin clear and transparent
How to use
After using our essential skin, evenly apply an appropriate amount to the skin.

Packaging
The bottle of a sturdy plastic and not glass. Unfortunately, It isn't as elegant looking or rich feeling as the essence glass bottle.

Application
It is a gel like consistency. one pump is enough for my entire face. It is easily absorbed, leaving the skin feeling fresh afterwards. After absorption, it feels as if I applied nothing, leaving no oily, sticky or any sort of residue which is good.

Effectiveness
I cannot say too much on its effectiveness as I used it along with the essence, which I believe did most of the work. I would like to think this product is a boosting product to provide further radiance and glow to the skin.

Final Verdict

Pros
boosting product to further provide radiance and glow to skin (however effective used by itself is unknown)
absorbs well- leaves no sticky or oily residue
 skin feeling refreshed
did not cause breakouts
can be used day and night

Cons
expensive for amount of product given

Overall, I am feeling eh about this product. I did not use it alone without the essence so i cannot judge it so fairly. However, for its price I am not so impressed with its performance.

Will I repurchase?
No. As just a booster to the essence, I feel like its not worth my money.

I hope you enjoyed this review!
Take care!
