Box Description
This nourishing moisture serum is formulated with freshly squeezed Jeju green tea and green tea seeds to create a dewy and clear skin from deep within.

The serum is said to contain "100% squeezed green tea which are rich in amino acids and minerals" and "Dual Moisture-Rising Technology from the green tea and green tea seed oil." These features enable the serum to penetrate into the deeper skin layers, allowing for longer and deeper hydration and nourishment.

Green tea not only hydrates your skin, however can help with blemishes. Since green tea has antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, sun protection and moisturising properties, this serum can help with dark spots, redness, trouble spots and dehydrated skin.

This serum is a clear in colour and has a thin and runny consistency. It also has a strong perfume fragrance. However, this fragrance doesn't irritate my nose or skin.

Application

This serum is made to be applied as the first step of skincare, straight after cleansing the face. This is because the formula is to be absorbed into the deeper skin layers to really provide deep hydration and nourishment. Being applied to fresh and bare skin allows for better absorption.

Straight after cleansing my face. I use one pump full for my whole face, patting it in for better absorption. Its watery and light-weight consistency allows the serum to sink into my skin so effortlessly. There is no sticky-ness, left over oily residue on my face after. My skin drinks the serum in, leaving my face feeling very hydrated and feeling as if I didn't apply anything on my skin. This is because the product absorbs deep into the skin, rather than the surface of the skin.

Effect

After a few weeks of adding this serum to my day and night time skincare, I can tell my skin loves drinking and soaking  up this serum. This serum really calms down irritated skin. My face has reduced in redness and trouble spots. I don't even need to put on my pink spot treatment at night anymore since I haven't gotten any new spots since using this serum.

There is no dewy-ness left by this serum as it absorbs into the skin, but rather it leaves the skin looking as if you haven't applied anything. This serum is great for oily skin, giving it the needed hydration but not over doing it. As for dry skin, I cannot say. However, my pores are less clogged because of this hydrating serum. less clogged pores equals reduction in oils and breakouts.

Overall, my skin now feels hydrated=less oily, calm=reduced redness and non-irritated=less breakouts.  However, one thing that I have yet to see visible results are the appearances of my hyperpigmentation and acne scars. I will definitely update this point after longer use though.

Pros
Suitable for all skin types (Great for my oily skin)
Light weight formula
Absorbs quickly into skin- leaves no oily/sticky/dewy residue
Does not clog pores
Hydrates skin from deep within
Less oily skin
Reduces redness
Prevents breakouts
Soothes and calms irritated skin/spots

Cons
Strong fragrance (Can be a con to some)
Does not  leave the skin looking dewy after application (for those with dry skin)
May be expensive to some
Have yet to see any changes to scars and hyperpigmentation

Innisfree Skinny Waterproof Microcara Review

The Innisfree Skinny Waterproof Microcara caught my eye when I saw how thin its brush was. It has been my daily mascara for a while now, so I hope you enjoy the review.

NOTE: I realised I added in an 's' to microcara in the above photo. Please excuse the mistake!

Skinny Waterproof Microcara

Price
$14.65AUD at Innisfreeworld
$11.49USD at Jolse
$9.18USD at Koreadepart

Product
The skinny microcara gets its name from its  2.5mm wide brush. From Innisfree's official website, the Innisfree Skinny Waterproof Microcara is 'a waterproof mascara with an ultrafine skinny brush that brings out hidden lashes'. It is 'a non-smudge mascara with a strong waterproof base', It 'thoroughly coats hidden lashes' and 'evenly coats lashes in a thin layer.'

Application
I love application with this mascara. The 2.5mm wide brush allows every lash, upper and lower, to be effortlessly coated.

The image below shows the comparison between a regular mascara brush and the Innisfree skinny Microcara brush. You can imagine the regular mascara brush wouldn't be too easy to apply to short lashes. With the microcara, there is more precision because the brush is so thin. I don't have to worry about the brush accidentally poking my eye or smudging on the eyelid. I am able to easily reach all individual lashes and get product to the roots of the lashes effortlessly. I have to say this mascara is a dream to apply to lower lashes.

The brush also doesn't clump my lashes together and separates each lash very nicely. However, I found this mascara is hard to layer coats, since it tends to leave clumps if applying a second layer.

TIP: With any mascara, I lightly wipe off excess product off the brush and then apply mascara. This avoids clumpy looking lashes.

Effect
The microcara does not provide volume to lashes well. However, it provides length and separates each lash nicely. The results are natural long looking lashes. It lengthens both upper and lower lashes and makes them look more visible.

The microcara comes in two versions, waterproof and non-waterproof. Since I have oily eyelids and straight short thin lashes, I always go for waterproof mascaras since they seem to hold curls better and smudge less.

I have to say, this mascara does not hold a curl well. Straight after application, my lashes drops its curl. I suggest a lash fixer/ primer before this mascara to allow the curl to stay put throughout the day. However, a tip if you dont want to use two product on your lashes is to 1. curl your lashes 2. apply this mascara and then 3. Re-curl them once the mascara drys. This will not hold the curl all day long but provide a curl that will slowly drop throughout the day.

It is waterproof, needing an oil based makeup remover. Having very oily eye lids and watery eyes, this masacara does not smudge or give my panda eyes (even on hot days).

Pros
2.5mm thin brush
Provides natural looking lashes
Lengthens lashes
Able to reach individual lashes and roots of lashes
Great for lower lashes
Separates lashes nicely
Waterproof
Smudge-proof
Affordable

Cons
Does not hold curl well
Does not volumize
Can get clumpy if layering coats

Overall, this is a great mascara for daily wear, giving natural long looking lashes. It is especially great for those with short thin lashes and oily eyelids. I just wished it held curls better.

Will I repurchase? Maybe. I am not sure if I am willing to use a primer/fixer before using this mascara. It takes a lot of time in the mornings for both steps.

VDL Naked Facial Exfoliant Review

The product I will be reviewing today is the VDL Naked Facial Exfoliant.

Brand
VDL
Product
Naked Facial Exfoliant
Content
100ml
Price
$14USD at Koreadepart

Packaging

VDL has such professional and elegant packaging, which is a major reason why I want to buy from the brand. The box in which the product comes in, is clean and bare of any colours and designs. This successfully conveys the 'Naked' concept.

The product itself is simple yet sophisticated looking. As you can see from the images, the tube is a metallic chrome, with no designs but only the product name, brand name and instructions printed on it. Overall, I love VDL's minimal 'less is more' design!

Lastly, although not perfect, lets all take a moment to appreciate that the writing is in english as well!

Product

After reading the concept of the VDL Naked line, it truly makes me want to buy the other products from the same line. The use of non-irritating natural ingredients such as rice and oatmeal really excites me since both ingredients contains brightening and lightening properties.

Normally when hearing the word exfoliant or scrub, I think of an abrasive grainy formula. However, the VDL exfoliant is smooth and gentle in texture. The product has a very light moisturiser-like consistency and contains very fine grains of what I assume are the rice bran and oatmeal extracts. Although the exfoliant contains grains, these grains are so fine that it does not feel abrasive to the skin at all.

It also has no fragrance, which is great for those with sensitive noses and skin.

Application

I first gained interest in this exfoliant after it was featured in Pony's beauty dairy.

In the video, she mentions two methods in which you can apply this facial exfoliant- a deep cleansing method (which is the application method suggested by VDL on the packaging) and the one she demonstrates in the video, which is a gentle leave-on method.

For deep cleansing, I use the method recommended on the packaging. TIP: Use exfoliants straight after getting out of the shower or steaming your face, since the steam will help open pores and make the dry and dead skin soft and easy to remove.  Straight after stepping out of the shower, while my face is still wet, I massage in some product in a circular motion until I feel satisfied which is usually 10-20 seconds (any longer I feel is too abrasive to the skin). I then leave the product sitting on my face for 2-5mins for the product to melt into the skin and really break down the dead skincells. After, I wet my hands with warm water and massage again and then wash off all product with lukewarm water.

As for a mild exfoliating method, I use the same method Pony uses in her video. I simply apply the product dry and then after 10-15mins, I wash off the product. While washing off I massage the product very gently. I even bought the Skinfood Black Sugar mask which she uses in the video and combine the two exfoliants. (I know she is probably sponsored and the products were scripted in, but I am a sheep that follows. Don't judge me!)

Effectiveness

This exfoliant is very effective in removing dead skin cells, while being not abrasive to the skin. After washing off the product, my skin feels incredibly soft and so smooth that my fingers just glides across my skin as if silk. I use a spot treatment for my pimples, which works by drying up the spots, leaving them flakey. This exfoliant has helped remove flakiness and dry spots on my face.

Also, I have noticed that my skincare products absorb into my skin better after I use this exfoliant. With better absorption, my skin feels more supple and hydrated and my pores are less clogged.

However, a down side is that this exfoliant has no effect on blackheads. This is understandable since this exfoliant is very mild and works to remove waste from the top skin layer.

I have yet to use it long enough to see if it can lighten acne scars or hyperpigmentation. However, this product does temporarily brighten up the complexion after usage.

Pros
Very fine grains- gentle formula
Suitable for sensitive skin
Leaves skin feeling soft, silky and smooth
Effectively removes dry dead skin cells
Reduction in pore size
Temporary brightening effect
Easy application
Can be used as a leave on mask as well as a deep cleansing exfoliant

Cons
Availability
No effect on blackheads

Shiseido Hada Senka Perfect Whip Review

Shiseido Hada Senka Perfect Whip is a popular foam cleanser from Japan, being HG cleansers for many and a no.1 seller in Japan for some time. It is affordable and deemed by many as a 'must buy' skincare product when in Japan.

I find it very difficult to find japanese beauty items in Australia and also online, but sasa.com was having a special for new customers (free shipping after spending $20). I ended up making a small order, buying this cleanser and a japanese sunscreen. I hope you enjoy my review!

Shiseido Hada Senka Perfect Whip
Content
120g
Price
$8.90AUD at Sasa.com

The product is very affordable, retailing between $6+ depending on where you purchase it. It contains a generous120g, which will last quite a while as you only need a pea size amount to achieve an vast amount of foam. (which will be demonstrated later in this post).

The initial pre-foam texture of the cleanser is toothpaste like and stringy. Due to its stringy-ness, when squeezing it out of the packaging the cap of the product can become messy.

The selling point of this foam cleanser is its amazing foaming abilities. Here is the official promotional ad and CF showing the amazing amount of foam this cleanser can achieve.

I believe using other tools or using more product, you will achieve the immense amount of foam the promotions show. Using just my hands, however does not provide the giant cloud of foam like shown in the video and promotional photos.

I have provided a photo comparison below, first showing the foam achieved by the Perfect Whip and the second by a regular foam cleanser. Both times, I used the same amount of product, water and lather time.

It is evident that the Perfect Whip achieves more amount of foam that is bouncy, dense and thick compared to the less dense, bubbly foam achieved by the regular cleansing foam.

Unlike the less dense nature of the regular foam, the Perfect Whip foam does not roll or drip down your hands or face as quickly. It is a thicker foam, made of dense tiny bubbles, allowing the foam to sit well on your hand and skin.

The benefits of a denser bubble formation is well shown by the images shown on the packaging of the Perfect whip. Since the foam is formed by smaller denser bubbles, cleaning becomes more effective as the foam will by able reach down every small pore.

I cannot say its effectiveness in removing makeup because I use separate make-up removing products prior to using this foam. However, other reviews say it is not effective in removing makeup. But, that being said, this product is not marketed as a makeup remover. Other products in the Perfect whip line includes makeup removing gel cleanser, a cleansing oil and so on which I believe would be more effective in removing makeup.

As a daily cleanser, it removes remaining oils and impurities that have accumulated throughout the day or night effectively.

It leaves my face feeling very clean, but not tight or 'squeaky'. I am really impressive by the results since past japanese facial foams have resulted in a tight feeling to my skin which I did not like. I have oily-combination skin and I can tell this foam works great for oily skin, as it effectively removes any oils from the face. That being said, I highly recommend hydrating your skin well after this cleanser, or else the skin will want to regain those lost oils and thus cause oilier skin. (but that is an obvious step after all cleansers)

As seen by the ingredients, the Perfect Whip is a basic cleansing foam with no added benefits such as whitening or acne control. It does not irritate my skin or cause any breakouts which I am thankful for. All in all, it is an effective basic foam cleanser.

Pros
- Creates a generous amount of thick, dense and bouncy foam
- Only need a pea size amount with each use
- Affordable
-Does not cause break outs
-Effectively removes impurities and oils from face
-Leaves skin feeling soft and not tight.

Cons
- Availability
- Takes time to lather the product
- No additional skin benefits
-Can be drying to those with dry/normal skin

Would I repurchase?
No. Although it foams up beautifully and does its job as a cleanser, I would not repurchase it since I would rather a cleanser that had additional skin benefits.
