Packaging
The packaging is a sturdy plastic tub that contains 100g of product. Although appropriate for Skinfood's 'eco friendly' image, I find the packaging is inappropriate in some areas. Since the surface material is paper, you would need to avoid letting water touch the lid. Also, despite being in a tub, it doesn't come with a spatula which can make application messy and unhygienic. However, overall the tub is very sturdy so I cannot hate the packaging design.

Product

Description
A mask that contains mineral enriched Brazilian black sugar and promotes smooth glowing skin.

The Skinfod Black Sugar Mask is a combination of a leave-on wash off mask and exfoliating scrub. The product itself is a very thick jam-like formula that contains large sugar particles. However, I would have to say the grainy texture can be abrasive to those with sensitive skin.

The product also has a very strong sweet lemon scent to it, which I personally dislike. (I am not fond of lemon scents) However, to those who love citrus scents, this fragrance might be your cup of tea.

Application

To use:
After cleansing massage onto damp face, avoiding the eye and mouth areas. To minimise irritation, add water or toner while massaging. Leave for 10-15 minute. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

The product is very thick so a spatula is definitely needed to scoop out the product from the tub. Despite its thick and grainy formula, application isn't too difficult. Due to its main ingredient being sugar, the product and some sugar particles melt upon touching the warm skin. That being said, application still feels a little abrasive. However, an addition of a bit of water can help lessen the abrasiveness.

Effectiveness
Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with the effects this mask gave to my skin. Having read endless reviews raving how amazing this exfoliating mask is, it did not live up to my expectations.

Reading about how this product effectively removes blackheads, brightens dull complexion and makes the skin soft and dead skin-free, I was really excited to use it. However, It did not get rid of my blackheads nor did it remove all my flaky dead skin. Though, it does temporarily brighten the complexion, tightens pores and make the skin soft and smooth. Overall, It is a good mask for its price.

I would have to say I prefer the VDL Naked Facial Exfoliant (which has a more gentle formula) over the Skinfood Black sugar mask. If you would like to read my review on the VDL Naked facial exfoliant click here!

Pros
Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth
Reduction in pore size
Temporary brightening effect
Moisturising

Cons
No effect on blackheads
Did not effectively remove all dry flaky spots
Strong lemon scent (Con for some)
Grainy formula might be abrasive to sensitive skin
